Foreword: This work
was to be a narrative work created by Gloriana. It was discovered that
it really happened/
is happening. I have co-opted the title/content. Sorry for the false start.
In the chronology
this work follows just after "Our Story", not before, as had been
thought when it was deemed
fiction.
The work covers the arival of Tess & little Zan in Sunnydale just days
after the others arrived,
The shocking events between Liz & Tess. The aftermath, and the acceptance
of a bestowed Tess
into the Pantheon. The curious relationship between the bestowed Isabel
and Kyle. Ava's
agressive actions toward Kyle after the 'gottin-milch' breakfast. The preparations
for the punitive
expedition to Antar. Ava starting her own hunt in 'Lost Roswell' for Alex
and the 2 pregnant sisters, the
other Lonnie & Ava, detailed in the separate work "The Quest for
Alex", which rejoins this work in Part 5.
The Antar expedition details are in Part 4. The surprising role Isabel
& Kyle play is intriguing, as is Maria
finally coming out of her post-Liz terror about Tess and Clare. Maria finally
finds an initial place in the
scheme of things, bonding with the Sukkhal Twins, Isabel & Kyle, as
a drunken new Queen of Antar, Tess,
toasts these 'Damned Pilots". Returning to earth, they meet up with
Ava, back from her foray and all sorts
of surprises await. The lakeshore barbeque is the celebration.
Plans are made for a return to Antar after the snow starts falling to introduce
a version of Christmas
celebration to the Anarians from Tess' villa on the hill. It'll be the
first white Christmas for many. The
renewal of white Christmases for others. Tess, the Queen of Antar, and
the Christmas Elf, hosts
that celebration.

Part 1: "'I'm a bitch,' said Tess"
"I'm a bitch," said Tess.
She made a face at herself as she peered into
the mirror over the sink.
The daunting task of changing little Zan for
the umpteenth time today
was losing its charm.
His little legs kicked as she popped the tabs loose and took a deep breath.
Her nipples were sore from nursing, her temper
was short from the lack of sleep,
and she was contemplating using her considerable
powers on her infant son.
He was so irritable since arriving in Sunnydale.
Anything to stop his incessant recycling of her
milk into still another changing session.
To get a full night's sleep again.
"How'd I ever get into this mess?" she asked
her mirror self.
...
Afterward she stood in front of the windows facing
the luxury apartments
across the cul-de-sac. That was where the blonde
with the little girl seemed
to live.
The one that had taken pity on her and Zan as
she tried to quiet him in the park
beyond several days ago.
The woman apparently owned all three of the apartment
buildings, but this one, the
least pretentious, seemed to have only one tenant.
Well, two, if Zan counted.
And he did. She kissed him. He was quiet now
and sleepy.
Tess kept having disturbing dreams that troubled her interrupted sleep.
The words of the woman about not going into the
park until full daylight because
of wild animals were some. Another was one about
a beat-up van that she
knew she'd seen on the side street across the
park that day.
That was in a less expensive area of older homes
and she wondered why she kept
flashing on it. Maybe she needed to walk across
the park and investigate. But without
Zan. She wondered if the long-haired brunette
high school girl that frequented the woman's
building would baby-sit him for even a few hours.
Besides she needed to find some illicit activity
in Sunnydale that she could
use mindwarp on to scoop up some more cash without
risk. Until leaving Roswell
she'd never had to provide for herself.
Resorting to her powers had been a natural.
Departing Roswell some days after the diversionary
detonation of the ship's engine
had left her with only the stuff she had on and
the baby things. Plus the cash from
the two ferrying Zan to his presumed new adoptive
parents.
'Course that was all mindwarp.
It was the oddity of driving in 'their' car, leaving
them behind and puzzled as to
how they ever got there, that made her have a
feeling that she'd never see that
Roswell again.
It was like the explosion had done something to the whole area.
Tess listened to the car radio for news of the
explosion aftermath, which was
a big thing in Roswell, but no news apparently
once outside the area. It was
also odd that the news was slanted in a different
direction. Less foreign news
and more local news.
She also wasn't sure why she'd stopped to walk in the park the other day.
She could have comforted Zan in the car. Lucky
for her though. This place was
way better than the motels she'd stayed in on
the way west. In fact, it was
comparable to what she and Nasedo had usually
lived in.
As she swayed with Zan to rock him, she again
thought that it was curious that
so many people went in and out of the woman's
apartment building at all times
of the day and night.
In fact, people came out, mostly female, that
she never noticed going in.
Maybe she was seeing things from lack of sleep
or just plain worn out from
the trip still.
Sitting down in the closest chair, Tess drifted
off into a deep sleep for a change,
and Zan was quiet as he slept in her arms.
Across the park, Liz and Maria stood in the yard
beside the old van.
"Lots different from Roswell," Maria commented
as she searched for her lost
brush in the van.
Liz was admiring her wedding band in the morning
sunlight. "Let's go
explore the park. The guys are still sleeping."
"And why not?" Maria said smugly. "They did most of the work."
"yeah," Liz' face grew dreamy. "Even Kyle. Did
you notice that Isabel stayed
in the room with Kyle all night? Still there,
too."
"Guess we'll see what happens to them here in
this quiet little part of the world.
At least it's not as weird as Roswell was," Maria
found her brush and motioned
for Liz to walk down the street and cross over
to the park. "Nice apartments
or condos on the other side," Liz observed as
dodged a big crack in the sidewalk.
"At least," Maria kicked at the weeds encroaching
on the sidewalk, "We'll never see
Tess again."
...
The two girls waited while a slow moving truck
passed, then headed across the street and
down the sloping path to the little bridge over
a small creek.
Beyond was mostly grass, a few large trees and
lots of bushes in clusters. A few large rocks
or boulders had flower beds around them.
The somewhat small park was surrounded at the edges
by bushes and trees as a border.
One of the few openings in the border was clear
across the park. There the slope up the
hill ended at the back of one of the expensive-looking
3-story apartment buildings
With the just-risen sun behind their backs, Maria
and Liz walked to the right, where there was
a playground area. With swings, monkey-bars and
see-saws, plus a little push merry-go-round.
And some sturdy-looking metal framed picnic tables
slightly under the larger trees.
"Ohh," Liz said. "That'd be a great place to eat
lunch. We've got to get everyone over here
for a picnic."
"As they sat down in the sling seat swings and
began pumping them up like little girls, Maria
reminded Liz that they'd just spent a good chunk
of the cash Max & Isabel's parents had given
them. It'd gone for the rent-to-lease for the
old, but clean home they'd been in for 3 days now.
