Glory had used a meat-axe approach to demolishing the entire top floor
of one of the two wings of the
U-shaped Hyperion Hotel.
She ignored Angel's weakly voiced objections.
She said she needed more room while she decided what to do with her
captured ship. The ship still
floated on the other side of the portal that Glory had now moved to
open someplace other than the
lobby. She'd also enveloped it temporarily in a larger bubble portal
of her own concept and magical
creation that had the effect of rendering it accessible and visible
only via the one original portal,
which was heavily warded.
Eager to use her powers for something more mundane, she personally stripped
the floor bare of all
but the load bearing beams and walls in an hour of flying wood and
wall materials that left the floors
knee deep in debris. Glory pronounced it a good start and left for
their temporary quarters in the
center wing top floor.
Within hours a crew of perhaps 2 dozen high-end contractor workers appeared
with tools and
building materials to start a 2 day, 24 hour crash renovation for triple
wages and huge contractor
bonuses. Glory sagely noted that her money and credit cards were a
sort of magic, too.
Angel continued to be mightily disturbed at Glory's visibly increasing
powers.

She solved mental and magical obstacles with greater and greater understanding
and confidence.
Logically building on past successes and applying her magical version
of Anunnaki super-technology,
that also easily transcended it, to the tasks at hand.
It was terrifying to watch her seize upon a problem she would not have
been able to comprehend
when she'd first arrived at the hotel and then conceive of a magical
solution within minutes,
sometimes seconds.
This from a god who had had to have the concepts and differences between
worlds, dimensions and
planets explained to her in simple terms by Wesley before she grasped
it.

She had proceeded to use this knowledge to invent from whole cloth
a magical way to vaporize an
entire, albeit unusually weak coreless, planet through the Enkum portal.
Ironically achieved using
an insight from studying the control device for their portal itself.
Destroying the whole planet the Enkum forces had been warring on for
the Anunnaki, before capturing
the ship, had been some sort of improbable god-power barrier that,
once penetrated, left her free to
progress as she pretty much pleased.
What she did not know as she pestered the contractor and made on the
spot changes, to his
carefully hidden annoyance, was that events were progressing toward
her first confrontation
with the super-technology-derived-magic god the Sukkhal line of god-kiillers
had driven off
earth long ago.

/Inanna,
Queen of Heaven, did not play games.
Nor did she remodel hotel floors in high-heels and gold jewelry.
She resolved situations with massive force applied with no regard for
collateral damage.
And that force she was now nearing the point of delivering.
To a god who was busy admiring her figure in a mirror in a bathroom in the Hyperion Hotel.
The last, Inanna decided, of the natural gods the Anunnaki supposedly
exterminated long
ago. She sent out the urgent request to find one of the old Sukkhal
devices. Meanwhile
she waited, her command force of ships growing each day beyond Glory's
visibility.
[Ed - In fact, the
High Anunnaki phrase for this particular old-style weapon has the
same meaning as the Low Anunnaki, or Sumerian, word "sukkal" or "sukkhal",
as in "Sukkhal, The God-Killers". In effect it means the "god-killer"
thing. ]
Within 2 days the Hyperion reconstruction was finished. There began
an endless parade of
deliveries of furniture, drapes, rugs, mirrors, pictures and other
furnishings.
Cordelia oversaw it under Glory's approving eye.

Buffy-Anne spent most of her time in the ship via the portal opening.
She was truly able, as she
claimed, to understand and use any of the Anunnaki high-tech/magic
equipment aboard the stolen
huge triangular starship.
[Ed- Buffy-Anne was told to offer
her abilities to Glory by the Roswell Tess after she bestowal- extracted
the girl from the Bot in "Three Days in Sunnydale, Part 1"
. Very quickly Glory had liked the younger
Buffy-lookalike, street-savvy new supergirl and essentially adopted
her as the daughter she could
never have. Buffy had found the new supergirl somewhat after after
the Tantric bestowal the girl showed
Dawn in Dawn & Curupira's apartment. Both events are in the other
parts of "Three Days in Sunnydale.]
Glory had changed the name of it from "The Gateway of Inanna" to "Glory Triumphant".
[Ed- The relatively small (nearly 800 feet
long) "Glory Triumphant" figures large later on in several
other Works. It is the ship (crewed by Kyle, Pat, the Sukkhal Twins, plus
the Roswell Tess and
Isabel) that brings back the captured Inanna to her unexpected fate
in Clare's improbably godly hands in
future
later
parts of "Clare & Glory - Our Story".
It is also the vessel that ferries Clare, Dawn Curupira and others to the
first "All the Clares & Callies
Conference" in Delaware, Ohio a few days later.
Their meeting in Dayton, Ohio, an hour's drive away
via Marysville, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
(the destination of most of the 1947 Roswell crash materials) is the beginning
of a whole new phase
of the Works. Clare strikes a deal with the military and Majestic
(Olivia
D'Agostino) to avoid the
wholesale slaughter Glory and her fleet would visit earth with in
debugging it of aliens and supporters,
as they have elsewhere. Clare, Dawn, Curupira, Tess, the Sukkhal
Twins and Faith battle MIB, pro-Enkum
forces, helicopters and 2 Gallu flying saucers in an epic battle in, over
and beside the infamous Roswell
artifacts hangar inside Wright-Patterson AFB.]

She knew that Glory had some sort of offshore assets, like Glory/Clare
seemed to have back in
Sunnydale to back up their constant credit card use. Dawn even had
one of what she called the
Glory Hall credit cards.
Apparently it was a Glory thing.
Obviously Cordelia wasn't bringing all this stuff from Sunnydale, so
the credit cards must work
in both similar dimensions. Truly a puzzle.
Cordelia was ecstatic over this development. All she had to do was produce
one of the Glory Hall
no limit cards, with its somewhat magical spells that made tracking
it to the ultimate source of
the statement payer impossible.
Then she became the queen in every shop and store in L.A.
The many closets were bulging with new clothes, shoes and accessories
within a few more days
after Glory had moved in the redone wing's upper floor. One suite was
readied for Cordelia
and her new workstations with high speed T1+ lines.
Cordelia was actually trying to persuade her resident apartment ghost,
Dennis, to come over
and move in. On their one visit, Glory and Buffy-Anne said they could
actually see him. "I see
him in some part of the...what is it...spectrum from the little things
that jump out and around the
center things."
"Electrons and atomic nuclei," Buffy-Anne had whispered to Glory. "Not
little things and center
things."

"Not little things

Glory had had lots of terminology problems after learning about how
her powers worked at, and
below, the atomic level. Buffy-Anne knew that Glory could still do
the magic, but she wondered
if she'd ever encounter a god who truly understood how their magic
really worked.
At this point she secretly hoped it was her Tess, who probably could
understand it - but Tess
was merely a special supergirl. Could a supergirl become a god in some
way?
Such a magic-understanding god would be unstoppable and could advance
without limit, she
suspected.
[Ed- At this time, Buffy-Anne could not know that
the re-creatrix of the universe, Holly, existed.
Tess
did not share all her Isabel-bestowed memories while extracting the girl
during the
Bot bestowal. She also could not be aware that Clare was already a neophyte
god since
the pregnant GloryHall/Clare-Isabel battle in the Crashdown. Or that the
improbable Clare
was going to be such a god as Buffy-Anne envisioned.
The confrontation between Holly and Clare later in "Our Story",
to preserve the viability in time
of her godhood, her god-daughter Gloriana/Glory Hall, Glory and all their
(and Curupira's)
bestowal lineages was not within Buffy-Anne's scheme of plausibility.
Yet she was there when
it happened. And she remembered this moment very well, and smiled.]
Back in the new suites, Cordelia noticed that one special door led to
the open, but heavily warded,
portal to the ship. Glory had enveloped it within a super portal so
it was sitting outside (or possibly
inside, she said she wasn't sure) of normal space.
Cordelia was now spending her first days as Glory's Expedition Manager.
Preparing the things
that would go aboard the ship, including many of the items in the closets
and some of the
extra furniture, plus some amenities that were not aboard a warship
designed for Anunnaki
and Enkum tastes.
Food, in stasis-spelled containers by the cartload was one major concern.
Cordelia ate so much more herself, and she was only an immortal. The
very least she could do
was to make sure there was excellent variety for Glory to spell for
storage, though Buffy-Anne
was learning to stasis spell smaller amounts already under Glory's
teaching.
Watching the three of them, Cordelia had quickly realized that Buffy
and Glory were a loving pair,
in spite of their supposedly adversarial Sunnydale past. Not her own
type, but it worked for them.
Now, Buffy-Anne was devoted to Glory as if her faithful daughter. The
look in her eyes as she
strived to anticipate and please the little redhaired god was really
something.
They were always hugging.
Cordy supposed that after being Spike's sex slave from deep inside the
Bot, this was heaven for her.
She was needed and appreciated - and she had supergirl powers.
Anyway, Cordy had been learning how the various control systems in the
ship worked, as Buffy-Anne
explained them to Glory and Buffy. They were simple and foolproof,
as befitted a ship that was at the
far end of perhaps a million years or more of space and dimensional
travel.
"The technology, actually magic generated by super technology -
same thing,"- Buffy-Anne had early
on explained, "is controlled by what are sensors and small modules
that respond within safe limits at
all times." Most were activated by finger tip controls that were in
depressions. There was linkage to
the many parts of the ship via some sort of mini-portal technology,
she had said.
Many displays were 3-dimensional, some 2-D, depending on the space available or the application.
The readable displays were in High Anunnaki or sometimes Sumerian (Low
Anunnaki). This meant
they looked like computer generated cuneiform. It was a highly evolved
language, since it was
entirely linear geometrics at only handful of contact angles. While
not alphabetical, it was phonetic
with only about 60 major composite signs, including a scheme of numbers
to base 60, and an alternate
base 10 system that seemed to be the technical one.
The Sumerian cuneiform variant was more cumbersome then the Anunnaki
cuneiform since it was
adapted to a pictographic representation for the less technically needy
ancient Sumerians.
The Sumerian cuneiform variant
was more cumbersome then
the Anunnaki cuneiform...
Hence the name, Low Anunnaki.
Learning Anunnaki and Sumerian was relatively simple for Buffy-Anne.
She had the Curupiran/Tess
language magic skills that all that lineage had. Glory had some version
of it also. But before killing
all the crew and all the Enkum, they had to make a memory extraction
bestowal, which both Isabel and
Tess had done.
This was to be sure that all the technical and recent nuances were part of their resources.
[Ed -See the later portions of "Blood
Road" regarding the details of what happened just after the
ship was captured.]
This was shared with the immortals and other supergirls via quick bestowals.
The Sukkhal, particularly,
had an obsolete version of the languages, with no new technical content
since the loss of the Key
800 years ago, and, with it, any ability to track prey into adjacent
dimensions.
[Ed -See the early portions
of "Blood Road" regarding the details about the Key, Dawn
and the Sukkhal, plus
natural god-DNA v/s artificial god-DNA.
Wesley always glared at them as they came and went in the lobby, but that was all.
Today it was time to shop for jewelry.
The four left, feeling his eyes on them. And something else as they
stepped through the
warded barriers that enveloped the hotel. Buffy-Anne commented, "Was
that a mind probe
or just a side effect of the barrier opening?" as they turned up the
street for a brisk walk to
their favorite high priced jewelry store.
Lonnie yanked back her probe after an attempt
to use the barrier opening to probe either the
brunette or the former Bot that she remembered
from the Tess bestowal in Sunnydale.
The girl was now too powerful. This more powerful
Glory had done some additional enhancing
on the girl.
The familiar swarm of bees in her head from her
attempt to probe the pregnant Clare in the
Crashdown in Roswell was magnified ten-fold,
but she'd anticipated that with a deliberately
brief probe.
[Ed- That event occurred in the middle of the 4 parts of "Three Days in Roswell".]
Watching the 4 walk out of sight, Lonnie deduced
they were going shopping still again. Nothing
special. Apparently the renovation on the upper
right floor was over also. All the workmen were
gone some days ago.
This was getting boring and lame. She looked in
her pocket for one of her bottles of Key blood
from Ben. After she had a fancy meal on Holly,
she'd jump back to Sunnydale and report what
she'd seen.
Which wasn't much. She was pretty sure that Tess,
Isabel and the two Clare/Glory mystery
girls were gone via a portal from inside the
hotel. Where, she didn't know, but Holly would be
interested that there were 2 more dimensional
clones.
[Ed- These mystery girls were the Sukkhal Twins from "Blood Road"
going back to Sunnydale, chaperoned
by Isabel and Tess. Their mission was to find out what really happened
at the tower, Angel's
role in it and who the mystery god might be in Sunnydale. Their sometimes
humorous misadventures
in Sunnydale are in the long, multi-part work "The Twins - Sukkhal,
The God-Killers". Several years
later, the Twins' abilities are part of Clare's deal
with Majestic at Wright-Patterson AFB, down the
road an hour from her (and the other Clares & Callies) hometown
of Delaware, Ohio. See the
Ed note earlier above, about the "Glory Triumphant", for
more.]
Cordelia looked around happily in the upscale store.
She could never afford to shop here before. But here she was.
Buffy was a little away from them fingering some
earrings, holding them up to her ear and
looking in the mirror on the counter.
Buffy-Anne was holding some shopping bags from
their prior purchases in a store they got
sidetracked in on the way here. Cordy and Glory
were trying to decide between several
necklaces in platinum or gold.
"Shopping with you, "Glory said to Cordy, "is
like shopping with myself. We really appreciate
the finer things..." she held one of the necklaces
against Cordy's neck.
Cordelia was in heaven with Glory and her endless
supply of credit that she shared so casually.
"It was so hard to remember that you're a god
when you aren't killing demons or destroying a
small planet," Cordy said earnestly.
"True," Glory laughed then froze as Cordy began to shake.
"What...?" Glory grabbed her arms and saw she
was having one of her previously talked about
visions. The first since being made immortal.
She seemed to be able to handle all but the shaking,
so the immortality was keeping the reported pain
away. Glory started to see if she could enter her
mind and see what she was seeing.
Cordy was pleased that they were not painful anymore,
now that she was immortal, but this one
was a shock to her system for some reason. Plus,
she was seeing the event BEFORE it
happened, she guessed, maybe 10-15 seconds...
"Vampire business...?" Glory still held one of
Cordy's arms. Buffy was coming over to join them,
concerned. Buffy-Anne was already at Glory's
side, warily watching Cordy.
"Bomb...Big...BOMB," Cordy managed to get out...
"Where!?" Buffy demanded, her dormant Slayer instincts
taking over, while Glory was still
treating it as one of the routine visions that
they needed to pass along to Wesley or Angel
to take care of.
"...Nuke...Big NUKE...Big...BOMB!!!"
Cordy grabbed one of Buffy's hands.
"Hotel...our lobby...bomb...LOBBY!"
Glory now got it!
She scooped all three of the girls into her arms
at superspeed, spoke one trigger word and
they all vanished from the store right in front
of the stunned eyes of the other customers
and the staff that had been attracted by the
loud activity.
They fell a few inches as they reappeared just
inside the lobby doors after the unplanned
teleport.
Wesley was yelling and pointing at a square column about 5 feet tall, with a few projections.
Almost flat black in color. The big nuke. Probably
a super-nuke.
It sat in the center of the lobby.
There were two bright yellow Anunnaki cuneiform
displays on each face they could see.
All could read it these days, to their horror.
It was counting down in the simplified
base 10 Anunnaki numerical cuneiform.
"Eight!" Cordy and Buffy-Anne said simultaneously.
"Seven! Do something!" Buffy yelled at Glory.
Glory hesitated...no matter what she did...where
she moved it...it would detonate....what to do?
She could portal herself and the rest back to
Sunnydale...but it would still go off...if only she had
more time..."
"Three!" a near hysterical Cordy was screaming.
Glory made the most fateful decision she'd
ever make. She blurred to the Anunnaki super-nuke
and poked
her spread fingers into it as it detonated...

...Moments before, aboard the Anunnaki flagship...
(All conversations are translated from Anunnaki)...
The portal ship opened the portal while Inanna and her ship's officers
watched the many displays
in the control cluster in the upper center of the higher concentric
rings. She was focusing
on the drive force generators, which also provided the energy at the
moment for the portal
activity.
Inanna had put on her wraparound red ringed skirt, one of her signs
of godhood, before she came
out from her quarters into the command center. She was in her dark
red body suit with the flexible
black boots to her thighs. She checked unobtrusively to make sure they
were functioning
properly.
It was important that no one be taller than she was. She adjusted them up a bit.
She felt for the black rosette medallion on her chest between and above
her breasts, absently
glancing around to see the dozen or so blue-clad command officers busily
at work on their
consoles, hands and fingers in the slight touch depressions.
"What will be the effect?" she asked the ranking female Igigi officer in charge of the event.
"We've analyzed the coordinates from both prior portals' traces and
pinpointed the target
as in the western continent on Ki, Earth as they call it. Via a probe
portal, we've detected
enormous emissions up and down the long wave spectrum, plus scattered
Gallu vessel drive
traces."
"Obviously," she said drily, "At least 600 years of progress the Gallu have not prevented."
"Go on, " Inanna liked her she had a gallows sense of humor.
"One image sequence shows the view through a tiny probe portal of the
inside of some
manner of building, not a dwelling, perhaps a public building. See
the decoration."
Inanna looked at the staid decoration, elaborate, but indicative of
fairly complex machines.
"Electricity?" she pointed at several light sources, there and there.
By that figure."
They all followed her finger to the huge display and the Igigi played
the depressions
to magnify that area. "Human male, the Igigi officer identified. "Behind
a low wall, possibly a
counter. He does not see the probe portal. Too small."
"When we insert the device, we will have 10 tenths before it detonates."
{Ed- The Anunnaki 'tenths" is the unit interval
of time for the Anunnaki, originally based on
their slower heart rate. It is a tenth of the next larger time measurement.
It is roughly
equivalent to 1.8 seconds. It's one of several units of measurement in
the decimal
system used by the technicals. (The older 60 and 12 based system
was also still used
for some purposes). It's origin is in the same sense as 'dime' is derived
from the French
"dix" (i.e., "ten").
"The probe portal is small enough to allow us to monitor the explosion
and its after effects,"
the Igigi continued. "It should create a crater about 60 stadii across.
Total destruction 10 or
more times that."
"Can you tell whether the Sukkhal are still there?'
"No, your highness...but DNA sensory data shows the presence of the
god and several humans,
plus the signature of one of the old biological android control devices,
but altered and in the body of
an organic human. Mixed signals..." she admitted.
"Android?" Inanna reacted by raising her eyebrows beneath her flame
red locks of hair. "Stranger
and stranger. Too bad there won't be anything left to examine. " She
paused. "How long will it
take to replace this Sukkhal device?" she asked curiously.
"There are only 8 god-killer devices left that we could locate. This was the closest one."
"It was manufactured on Ki [i.e., Earth] about 4,300 of their years
ago. During the Anunnaki Clan wars.
It takes a relatively high level of infrastructure and a population
of at least one million to
build a site for repetitive manufacture, assuming the raw materials
and suitable technology
are all present."
"No sites are currently viable due to our recent wars with the other
Clans. Besides, it was assumed
that all the natural gods were long ago exterminated. Obviously an
oversight of some kind," the Igigi
said succinctly.
"I've heard that we're starting a mining, refining and technology base
on one of the recently
re-conquered planets taken from the latest revolting clan. It's in
the Third Galactic Rosette,
I believe. Far from here. And it will take many of their years to deliver
the first device. The
weather conditions are polar where the mines are."
"I was there on my on my last assignment before this honor," she smiled
up at her god, Inanna.
"Being cold was no fun."
Inanna listened to her talk.
She also lightly placed a hand on the woman's shoulder.
She always listened. It was one of her strengths to have Igigi not only
fear her godly powers,
but to feel that they had her ear. Lots of traitors had come her way
over the millennia by the
simple act of listening to talkative subordinates' gossip.
Flattered by Inanna's attention and her rare touch, the Igigi continued.
""If only," she played her fingers in the depressions, "we could find
some way of increasing
the power of the beam weapons or even make a weapon of the revealed
force drive
units. Then we'd not have to make any more Sukkhal devices."
"A number were used," she looked briefly at the attentive god, "to decimate
the planet of which
I speak. Several technologically advanced cities were obliterated."
Inanna understood what she was saying.
It was the kind of information that never fully got into official reports,
but which everyone
there knew. She leaned down and lightly squeezed the woman's shoulder,
whispering.
"Come to me in the fourth hour. I wish to hear more. Thank you."
Both now knew that somewhere heads would roll and an obscure female
Igigi officer would get
a new assignment on her home world, plus a sudden promotion. And future
opportunities to
serve her god.
So, inanna thought, that's why it took so long to secure this device.
Someone had taken
them all to use for planetary bombardment. In the process, crippling
their ability to manufacture
more quickly.
What if they had consumed them all?
She shuddered.
She could not send any Anunnaki forces, let alone her own self, into
a ground battle with the
Sukkhal. They were seemingly unstoppable with any weapon. And
for some reason there
seemed to be two, based on the data. But they had vanished from the
building.
There their traces were old.
But the earlier transmitted records from the ship showed the horrifying
images of two Sukkhal
executing the wounded and the surrendering, while the god simply slaughtered
brutally and
efficiently, with rare use of energy bolts.
Obviously she wanted the vessel intact and crewless.
Then somehow they'd quickly shut off the data stream.
Very alarming.
The natural gods were more powerful, but were killable. But this one
had destroyed the entire
planet that was now reforming from the debris that had not been blown
away at escape velocity.
Granted it had been riddled with automated evacuated mining tunnels,
but as yet none of her
technicals had a viable theory how she had done it or where one of
Inanna's irreplaceable portal
ships had vanished to.
Of what use was a starship to a natural god?
Unheard of.
All moot now. The god would pay with her life.
If she'd stayed hidden, she might have lived forever.
She hadn't and it would end here in a short time.
Seeing that all was ready. Inanna firmly ordered, "Introduce the device
at your discretion."
Hands move rapidly on several stations.
The portal opened and the generally square upright black column vanished
from the
delivery portal ship, a less capable one than the vanished shop.
It fell about a foot as it
appeared in the building lobby with a heavy thump.
"The human male sees it," the female Igigi noted. "Pretty hard to miss
though, with the
flashing countdown numbers on each face," she observed drily.
"Detonation in 10 tenths," she counted out loud from the displays.
"Motion in the right center of the probe image."
TELEPORT!" she almost screamed.
"THE GOD!" she did scream.
Inanna actually jumped. Why was she back and how did she know?
And what difference would it make. Opening a portal would take too
long,
if she even could. Some natural gods could, some couldn't.
And she seemed too indecisive to teleport again.
The god stood there before the apparent doors, looking straight at the
device
and the probe portal behind it. She appeared frozen as her companions
all
screamed in some late Latinish dialect. She was attractive. And had
long
reddish hair. Unusual.
"They're counting down like us. They can read Anunnaki?" the Igigi guessed.
"5 tenths!" she added.
"3 tenths!"
Then it happened.
The god blurred faster than even a Sukkhal could. She just appeared
at the device.
"Superspeed, not a teleport!" the Igigi interpreted correctly and loudly,
her voice
breaking from excitement.
The god stared directly into the probe portal and extended her hands
to the device
as if to hug it. Her eyes narrowed perceptibly. Her face filled a good
portion of one
display.
"What's she doing?" Inanna asked loudly. "Doesn't she know she's dead
in...?"
"DETONATION CONFIRMED!" was a cry from across the room.
This was unnecessary information. The probe portal displays went white.
When they instantly flipped back on after automatically adjusting,
there was a
communal gasp.
The god was frozen and her hands or fingers were in the device on two
sides. A blinding
stream of energy came out of the device as it began coming apart at
the atomic level
while inside other atoms fused.
The energy was streaming into her hands and her widely opened
mouth. It was as if she
were eating the energy of the detonation. Inhaling the very fires
of hell.
Inanna was having trouble moving. "What... in... the... name... of... Anu...?"
The Igigi near her was screaming just as slowly, so that Inanna had
to wait for each
word. "...The..God...has...stopped time...in the vicinity of...the
device...it's expanding to
us...through...the...probe portal...all the other ships..."
Inanna summoned all her high tech magic powers to counter the slowing
of time. Nothing
worked. She tried a barrier spell around the ship. The god simply increased
the effect.
Inanna realized she was drawing power directly from the detonating
bomb she had frozen
herself in time with.
This was impossible.
In desperation, she added another barrier inside the command deck. It
helped.
"Get this ship moving! NOW!" she yelled. "Close the probe portal!"
"Won't close! She's frozen it open! Ship's slowing down!"
"Engage portal in drive mode...overload power!" Inanna desperately
yelled.
"Back us off! Back us off!" she spun around at blur speed, absorbing
all the displays.
Slowly the ship began to move. Groanings and creaks emanated from all
over the ship
as the counter forces struggled against one another. "Hull has opened
in several places!"
someone announced. "We're breaking up if this continues...!"
Mentally Inanna tried to calculate the power the god was using to freeze
her fleet of two
dozen huge vessels spread across a 100 stadii of space...and through
a probe portal
only a few light wavelengths wide.
She dropped that thought as her newest Igigi informant called out, "SHE'S
MOVING!"
Inanna followed her gaze to one display.
"Fascinating and impossible," Inanna said under her breath. "No one can do that."
But she was.
The god was slowing crushing the remnants of the device into a ball
in her hands,
obviously having successfully absorbed all the energy of the detonation
into her magic
reservoirs.
She ate this final ball also. It turned into a tiny explosion in her
mouth that she effortlessly
swallowed.
"IDIOTS!" she yelled into the probe portal in perfect Late High Anunnaki.
Followed by a rapid fire string of profanity in both Anunnaki and gutter
Sumerian that
described Inanna and her crew's unlikely method of birth, sexual habits
and their final
resting place in myriad ways.
Only the Sukkhal could have known many of these words and phrases that
chilled the
blood of all aboard.
Somehow she was able to force her image and voice through onto all the
displays on all
the ships at once. Demonstrating not only exquisite control of raw
power, but an intimate
knowledge of how the latest high tech magic equipment worked aboard
the ships.
"My name is Glory," the god said simply, in Anunnaki.
"For this you will all die. Horribly. I'll
set my Sukkhal, both of them, onto your
scent Inanna. Or should I say Irninni?
In any case, no quarter. Your vessels
I'll seize as my own. Your worlds I will take
from your evil hands."
Then Glory uttered the legendary Sukkhal words that struck fear in the
heart of any
Anunnaki:
"YOU ARE PREY, FOREVER.
ALL OF YOU EVERYWHERE.
NO MERCY. NO SURVIVORS."
Then she said again, "My name is Glory!" Glory
is also my destiny, that I now know.
I'm a god, you idiots!"

"YOU
ARE PREY, FOREVER.
ALL OF YOU EVERYWHERE. NO MERCY. NO SURVIVORS."
"My name is Glory!"
|
Horrified, Inanna cried out," Glory...find out who Glory is...!. And get us out of here!"
"Majesty," one Igigi said nervously. "She laid the Sukkhal classification
of legitimate
'PREY' on all Anunnaki, not just you. Even the Sukkhal never did that..."
the voice
died away.
Another pointed out, voice shaking, "She said MY SUKKHAL. She spoke
the language and the
curses, the old idioms of the Sukkhal...we saw all three of them, and
others, slaughtering
those aboard the missing ship as if they were nothing..."
"Silence," Inanna snapped. "I want every scrap of knowledge about this
god...this Glory."
...
Buffy was beside her. "Glory", she asked frantically, "Are you OK?
What happened to the
bomb?" Glory looked at Buffy and shrugged. "Gone. Gone in me, I seemed
to have eaten it.
One hell of a meal," she mocked a burp and laughed.
Buffy-Anne blurred over just behind Buffy and looked down at the scorch
marks in the floor
where the super-nuke had once rested.
"Damn": Glory raised one foot where her pantyhose had melted to drips
across her rather
melted high heels, piling up on the ankle straps. Both heels were still
smoking from her
initial superspeed run to the bomb. With a snap of her feet, one by
one, Glory popped the
shoes off into arcs across the lobby. Then she raked her hands down
each leg to magically
cleanse them.
"How's my dress?" she asked to no one in particular.
"Burns in places, "Buffy-Anne observed, walking around behind her. "Good
material, stronger
than the nylon."
Glory burped again. This time holding a hand over her mouth. "I feel
bigger inside...wow, lots
bigger," she said mysteriously.
Cautiously, the others in the room came over.
"Are we dead?" Cordelia asked, while Buffy-Anne was buckling the straps
on a new pair of shoes
she'd gotten from one of the shopping bags to replace the ones Glory
had kicked off. Glory
leaned over with her hands on her thighs and examined them critically.
"I think I melted my bikini
off too."
Buffy began rifling through the shopping bags.
"Later," Glory stopped her. "None in there. Itches though," she indelicately
scratched through
her dress.
Still confused, Cordelia approached Buffy-Anne, since the other two
seemed more interested
in Glory's panties than what had happened. "Nuclear blast, a
super one. A gift from Inanna
through a portal," she responded to Cordy's unspoken question.
"Dress," Glory held out a hand.
She'd just slid the scorched one off to reveal that she had a nearly
transparent red half-slip
underneath. One of her frequent bad style choices, Cordelia thought.
"Why aren't we dead?"
she said plaintively. "Why is everyone worried about clothes at a time
like this?"
Buffy ignored her and handed her a dress from another of the shopping
bags. Glory put it on
over her head and wiggled into it.
"Better," she said, satisfied for the moment.
"Okay," Glory looked around. I want everyone here to stand still while
I put up a portal-proof
incoming barrier to everyone but us."
Wesley drily commented, "It needs to be bigger than the bomb's damage area would've been."
Glory didn't even look at him. "That's why I'm making it bigger
than the earth. Earth's a planet,
I remember. Also both dimensions. I remember what those are, too."
Then she simply clapped her hands together twice and spoke something
that sounded like
a cough. "Done", she announced. She cocked her head to the side. "Ohh,
too bad. Lots of
little shippies suddenly can't portal in here," she said cryptically.
"And," she added, "Their portal
end points are now sort of inside the sun. That's a star. I remember
that too."
Wesley just stood there, dumbfounded, as the extent of her post-bomb powers dawned on him.
"Now for the hard stuff. You, Buffy," Glory said softly to the retired Slayer.
"What about protecting Dawn? Shouldn't we go to her...and protect the
others?" Buffy seemed
to be objecting.
"Buffy, Buffy" she repeated, holding out her arms to grip Buffy by her
upper arms. "Don't you
understand? Don't you comprehend?"
"Your little world of simply hunting vampires
and demons is over. Forever. Dawn's slaying
world is going to be bigger than this one, or
any single dimension. She's immortal, like us.
Her slaying, her crusade against evil incarnate,
has now no boundaries. Not beyond my world,
nor my dimension.."
"Sunnydale is not where you sister will see her
greatest battles.
She can be at my side, too "
Buffy was almost in tears in her frustration,
"Dawn's just a girl! You can't bring her into this...your
war..! She's 'The' Slayer, 'The' Last Slayer...not
your 'personal'...Slayer. Like the Twins seem to
have been transformed into.. . or me," she added,
to hurt Glory.
"What if I gave her more powers?" Glory wasn't backing down.
"She has Curupiran, Key and Slayer powers," Buffy
listed, "Which are enough. Give me more powers
and don't take make Dawn stay with you. Let her
come to you to play, not to slay. I WILL slay
for you again in her place..." Buffy proposed
desperately.
The others watched this deeply personal discussion
with fascination. Each had their own concept
of the unlikely relationship between the former
Slayer and the god she'd once fought. And now
seemed to hopelessly love.
Glory looked into Buffy's gray eyes. "I can't
refuse you anything you ask for in Dawn's name"
She seemed to be having problems with her emotions
also. "All I ask is that she decide what she
wants to do on her own."
[Ed- And Dawn did accompany
Glory and Buffy many times on their voyages, as noted in "Our Story"
and
elsewhere. But her alliance with Clare was unbreakable.]
"Besides, I do have an almost limitless reservoir
of magic energy to spare. Gotta do something
with it."
"Yeah," Buffy seemed to be agreeing with Glory.
"You ate a nuke to save everyone." She said it
in honest admiration, about as if she were a
mother praising her daughter.
Glory laughed delightedly, "I ate a nuke...like
cotton candy. "She laughed again at the image
she'd conjured up verbally.
"Come here, Buffy," Glory simply said. "Bestowal kissy time."
They kissed deeply.
Cordy had not see this before between them. They'd always been somewhat discreet in public.
A ball of yellow light engulfed both of them completely.
Buffy was also glowing with a blue light
from her head to her toes as the bestowal progressed.
Only this Slayer could have accepted
these energies without being vaporized utterly.
It went on and on and on.
Cordy looked up at the clock, frowning. Buffy-Anne
was watching with undisguised interest.
This was the first bestowal she'd seen someone
else give since her own by Tess and the
Tantric ones with Dawn. She didn't count the
little pecks she'd gotten from Glory to
tweak and enhance her original Tess-bestowed
Curupiran and more powers.
Wesley was mumbling to himself as he watched,
finally leaving to do something in another
room.
Slowly, the bestowal seemed to be winding down.
The glowing and the light blinked off.
Buffy broke the kiss, but still found Glory's
hands on hers. She looked at the smiling god
fondly.
"What powers did you give me?" Buffy asked. "That
was a lot longer and more intense
then the first one by the hammock on your world."
[Ed- "Glory first bestowed immortality on Buffy on her world in "Beyond the Portal".]
"Oh," Glory answered gaily, "How about the Sukkhal
suite? A form of invulnerability, superspeed,
superstrength way beyond mere slayer. A bagful
of magic...and more..."
"Is that all?" Buffy was joking, of course," I
expected invisibility amd mindwarp with all the energy
you poured into me...lots more than before. That
I know."
[Ed-This work
was in-hand 4-6 months before the Buffy Season 6 episode where Buffy
was invisible via a ray-gun.]
Cordelia watched this, wondering what was really
going on between these two oddly matched
women. God and Slayer. So impossible..."
"And --- how do you know that?" Glory asked in
a soft voice, squeezing Buffy's hands in hers.
"How could you?"
Buffy was puzzled.
"I gave you more than invisibility, lots more,"
Glory said sincerely, "After this bomb thing, I'm
now, as far as I can know, the most powerful
god in the part of the universe I can sense."
Buffy said,"So? You always were told that you might not have limits to your growth..."
Ed- Pat got Glory to promise never to accept limits on herself during
one of her bedroom
visits in "Three Days in Sunnydale". Prior to that Buffy had helped
Glory learn how to
utilize her powers better.]
"Buffy, honey...HUSH," Glory said very quietly. "I made you a god."
Cordelia had to sit down hard on the floor in shock.
Wesley had been halfways listening to their emotional
rantings and dropped the box
he'd started to open
.
Buffy was stunned.
Her mouth fell open in stupified shock. Her hands
went limp in Glory's.
"Is that...even possible?" she said with widened
eyes.
"Not until now..else I'd have done it long ago.
Even at the palace..." Glory began to cry at
that memory now."Gods are not born, they're made.
I believe I was made bit by bit by my...
... until, I became a living entity. I was a
little girl god. Then it's taken so long to get to
where I was before I was somehow in Ben. and
there were two Glorys..."
Both were now sitting on the floor, still holding hands, and crying at their memories.
"But today, "Glory sniffled and brightened a lot,
"I was able to make a god all at one
time. Today you're a god like me! I, Glory,
Glorificus, made you by myself. I'm like a
mother, Buffy. I'm so proud!"
"Buffy the god. Say it Buffy," Glory urged.
Buffy slowly said the unfamiliar combination of words, "Buffy the god. I'm Buffy the god."
They embraced and kept crying on one another's
shoulders, now kneeling on the floor.
Like once before outside Glory's palace, Buffy
had knelt beside a sobbing girl god and
had become immortal soon after.
Now she knelt with an apparently limitless god. And had become a newly minted god herself.
And so it began.
This went on for awhile.
Glory observed, "Now you can take care of Dawn
yourself, Buffy. You don't need me
for the things you want to do."
This she whispered into Buffy's ear. "You need
god-training. And I still need lots of it myself.
But you're a god now, like me. Do better than
I did at first. Promise?"
"Promise," Buffy kissed her lightly on the mouth and backed away slowly, releasing her hands.
Cordelia, still sitting on the floor, watched
Glory show Buffy a sample of ways to open a portal or
to teleport. "Or," Glory said happily, "Just
make up your own ways. You're a god. There were rules
for you as a Slayer. When you became immortal
these passed away."
"Now you're a god and the limits and rules of that state no longer apply."
"Look at me," she was crying for joy, "I was a
teen, a god-girl. Now I'm become what I cannot predict.
One day, perhaps, they will say about me, 'What
hath Glory wrought?' And be proud of me and
my name. That I desire. Above all."
Buffy got up and stepped back from the kneeling Glory.
She gestured and spoke a word softly. A portal
opened behind her. She kept her eye on Glory all the time
and backed into it, vanishing as she stepped
into the destination.
Glory got up and from the floor, wiped the tears
from her eyes, smudging what remained of her eye liner.
She walked over to Cordelia and offfered her
hand. Cordy took it.
And was lifted to her feet.
"That's my girl. My beautiful Buffy. My new girl," Glory was bright-eyed.
"She's a god like me.
We proved we'd never be alone again," Glory practically radiated happiness.
"Yeah, I saw it," Cordy said.
"What do you plan to do now? Become Queen of the galaxy? With Buffy at your side?"
"Joke!" she added hastily as Glory looked back at her thoughtfully,
the recent tears magically
gone and replaced by a look that said multitudes.
"What a marvelous suggestion, Cordelia. What a marvelous suggestion,
" Glory repeated as she signaled
to Buffy-Anne and they disappeared up the right set of stairs, intent
on Glory taking a long bubble bath to wash
the traces of nuclear blast from herself.
Humming a little tune.
And to dream of impossible things.
Things not impossible anymore.
Not for this Glory.
Not anything.
