Part 3: " Holly, the Recreatrix of the Local Universe'" 20

"Hi there, Little One," Holly repeated.

Holly seemed to be on a speaker phone. "What's up?" she said loudly
as Curupira watched the melee around Buffy-Anne and Ava.

There were noises in the background. like things breaking.
And thuds.

"I'm in the middle of redoing the flooring in one of the little-used rooms up on the third floor,"
Holly explained. "Ben came over from the clinic to help me."

"Yeah," Curupira could imagine.

Poor Ben got to help Holly do all sorts of work in the villa. Part of the price of her
funding his purchase of the clinic awhile back. Holly could do it all herself with a flick
of an eyelash, but rarely did so.

She was a strange deity.

Especially for Curupira to be sort of working for. Since the time she'd met
her on the tower the night after Dawn was bestowed as the Last Slayer. So far she'd
not had to do anything that compromised her conspiracies with Clare, Tess & Glory.

[Ed- See "Dawn the Last Slayer, Part 1" for this meeting ]

It was better, she thought to continue to do so, since Holly had at least advised them
when they were in the other dimension with the other Dawn. Though she'd done precious
little to use her powers to help them. Except, Curupira had always thought, getting them
all together. Too many coincidences to my mind, she'd told her Glory and Clare.

They'd succeeded in keeping her existence a secret from Glorificus and Buffy so far.

Watching Glory blur to invisibility and feeling her recent incomprehensibly powerful
uncloaking of her glamour, Curupira could see that'd not last much longer. At the
very least, Glory'd  force a confrontation to test her.

That Buffy was now a god herself, courtesy of Glory, bespoke that something incredible
had transpired in L.A. in the other dimension.

What she wasn't sure.

Sometimes,  Curupira longed for a god who reached out and throttle reality by the throat.
Instead of working almost entirely through others, like Holly had with herself, Ben, Glory
and Tess.

Whether she'd ever worked separately  with Clare was an open question. Clare would lie if she
had, that was for sure. For their own good, as Curupira herself had done to Dawn.
It was how they got along so well. They lied to one another, including Glory and Tess, but
their mutual goal was always the same.

[Ed. - The multiple conspiracies between Curupira, Clare, Glory, Tess, Pat and even Dawn
are detailed in the Summer 2000 flashback Work "Dark Deeds", after Dawn got her memories
back near the end of "Our Story". This was during the Ohio trip to Wright-Patterson AFB, that
ended with the "All the Clares & Callies" Conference.]

Of course, at the moment, Glory was throttling Lonnie while the tiny Ava was pulling at her.
She in turn was being tackled by Buffy-Anne. Dawn and Buffy had given up and were simply
watching the four alternately beat and be beaten.

Glorificus seemed to be enjoying herself and was obviously playing now with both Ava and
Lonnie. Lonnie had recovered quickly and was holding her own as Glory toyed with the bigger
hapless supergirl.

An annoyed and frantic Ava had turned on Buffy-Anne and was surprisingly pounding her
to the floor with alarming ease. Curupira decided she'd have to intervene soon, unless
Dawn and Buffy stopped just watching.

Though if anyone deserved to be beaten it was the smart-assed Buffy-Anne. Curupira had
almost done it several times herself already, except she knew how Dawn felt about the real girl
the Roswell Tess had extracted from the Bot.

But if Glory or Buffy decided to do something really godly, the Roswell supergirls were in big
trouble.

Returning her attention to the phone, she recovered her prior train of thought.

"Uh...I think we have a problem...well a new development..." Curupira wasn't sure how to
phrase it.

"Well, hurry up. Little One," Holly said. "We have sticky stuff drying for the wood floors."
She seemed enthusiastic. 'Gods,' Curupira rolled her gray eyes. Always so damned hard to
figure out.

"Buffy's back from somewhere, L.A., I think...where the Sukkhal Twins came from...were...."

[Ed- The Super Slayer, god-Killer Twins left L.A. for Sunnydale a day or so before Buffy did.
Chaperoned by the Roswell Tess and her sister, Isabel. Due to the temporarily much greater
time rate differential with Sunnydale (probably caused by Glory's actions in L.A.) , they'd already
been there more a few days before Buffy,  and then Glory, arrived.  Their activities in Sunnydale
are in the earlier Work  "Sukkhal- The god-Killers".]

"The parallel similar, almost magic-less dimension?" Holly seemed resigned to pulling the
story out of the green girl bit by bit.

"Yeah...that one. Where Tess and I and Angel...interviewing the Clares and Callies to find
the best Glory lookalike for the host for Plan-B..." Curupira was hesitating because she
wasn't sure exactly how much Holly needed to knew about what had really gone on.

[Ed- In "Our Story" Clare admits that she was not the original Plan-B host, but had conspired
with Curupira (and Tess) to substitute herself, because, as Curupira noted in "Dark Deeds",
she was the one with the most ambition and appropriate skills. In the same work, Clare
revealed that she had switched the Clares & Callies (her sister) around again after she  birthed
Gloriana and gained full god-power. Her nominal sister, one of the Callies, on the trip to Ohio
told her she knew she  was not her real sister.

Clare admitted she wasn't sure anymore which one was. So she' d earlier simply immortalized
them all. This whole affair was the butt of many jokes about how there seemed to be 'too many
Clares and not enough Tesses'. There should  have been only 4 pairs (Callie & Clare) maximum
(1 per original dimension) , but when the Sukkhal Twins were counted, there seemed  to be one
pair too many. Some even speculated  that the Clare in the Buffy-is-TV dimension (ours) was a
switched Clare from another dimension and  that the Clare who became a god was the original
real Clare from our dimension. If so, it appears that this primary switch occurred during the period
ending  in "Dark Deeds"  (San Diego/L.A./NYC, Spring 1999 - Spring 2000), using Curupira's powers.]

"Little One," Holly said even more clearly, "Give me the good news first, if there is any."

"Buffy came back without Glory," was all Curupira could think of.

"But that means Glory let Buffy leave alone. She'd never allow anything so risky," Holly
pointed out rather astutely. The two were practically joined at the hips in Sunnydale.

"True," Curupira agreed. "That's the good news. Now for the bad."

Silence.

"Buffy just healed another of the Roswell girls.  Named Ava. I...Tess...met her last year.
She's one of the NYC duplicates, a dupe. She left Roswell on her own and appeared here
today on the streets looking for Tess. She looks like me...Tess."

[Ed- Remember, the 'Sunnydale Tess'  was accidentally merged with Curupira at the tower
and they are the other morphing pair, besides Glory/Clare. Bits of this other dimensional
Tess' sad story are scattered  in "Dark Deeds" and  "Dawn the Last Slayer",  "Three Days in
Roswell" and "Three Days in Sunnydale".

In the early parts of "Our Story", Clare successfully separated Tess from Curupira, after an
elapsed  time of over 10 years merged in Glory's faster time rate world. Later in "Our Story",
she hooked up  with the outgoing Roswell Tess & Isabel and was briefly arrested with them in
an L.A. suburb, when the three rode the streets bare breasted, standing thru the sun roof of their
        hired limo.

This Tess is not the same one as the much later one arriving in Sunnydale, the  "Lost Roswell"
Tess, carrying  her  baby Zan. (see "Bye-Bye Roswell Really", "The Quest for Alex" & "Having Babies"
for her story, plus the other Ava (& her baby Eve), the other Lonnie (& her twins, Fay & Kay). This Tess is
perhaps the most brutal, yet paradoxically loving, one of the three Tesses. She precipitates the  revenge raid on
Antar by Clare & Dawn in the "Clare Declared  & the "Glory Triumphant" . This Tess becomes the
(usually absent) Queen of Antar. And the very, very, very close friend of Clare.

The Roswell Ava in "Comprehension", a god by the latter part of "Our Story" takes Clare's 4 girls on a
bloody tour of Lost Roswell's New Mexico, revenging that Tess and her baby Zan along the way.  Engineering
her own 'impossible' pregnancy after finding Ava & her baby Eve in Glorieta, N.M. in "The Quest for Alex".

Holly was sympathetic.

"That's good. So this Ava's sort of like a lost sister...lot of that going around lately, " she laughed
a sweet laugh that sparked the tinkle of distant bells through the phone.

'Gods..'" Curupira suddenly remembered she'd heard similar bells from Buffy. But only once.
Could she actually be able to cloak her glamour so completely and so soon after being
made a god?

"Holly," Curupira finally got to the point. "She says that  some deity named Inanna inserted  a
big nuclear bomb into the hotel lobby to kill Glory, but that Glory absorbed or 'ate' the bomb
as it exploded....Is that even possible...?"

There was a long silence on the other end. It coincided with the sudden silence
in the room where Curupira was also. Buffy and Dawn had finally waded in again and
separated the 4 combatants.

This time successfully.

Buffy was making Glory help Lonnie and Ava up, while Dawn was rescuing a badly beaten
Buffy-Anne from the floor. Having to heal the supposedly invulnerable supergirl in the process.
Ava was obviously more than a simple supergirl, as were most of the Roswell hybrids.

Curupira smiled at Buffy-Anne's wobegotten physical state.

She'd be wary of girls that looked like Tess in the future! Dawn was bestowing on the girl
to speed up the girl's own almost depleted healing abilities.

The long silence ended.

"Say again," Holly finally responded in a most peculiar voice.

"Say again," Holly finally responded
  in a peculiar voice.
    Holly,

     the

recreatrix

  of  the

  local

 universe

"Glory ate an exploding nuclear bomb this Inanna put into the hotel lobby.
No one was hurt and..."

"That's not possible," Holly regained her natural voice.

"Uh, " Dawn and I just watched Buffy bestow this Ava to a supergirl. I detected
enormous power at work. In the style of a god." Curupira could not actually
say what she wanted to say.

Holly actually stammered something unintelligible.
copyright © 2001 gloryisagod.com/DS/G(G)
"Or", she finally decided, "Glory has just bestowed supergirl powers on Buffy.
I doubt it was a nuclear bomb, I thought the Anunnaki used all of them up thousands
of years ago. "

Curupira filed away this information. She suspected it was crucial in some way.

What was Holly doing involved with the legendary enemies of the Sukkhal
and, now, Glory? Best to take care now, she reminded herself. Holly had just
passed from helpful to dangerous, her demon senses screamed.

"Holly, you're not listening to me...I believe Glory ate the bomb as it exploded and
became so powerful..."Curupira took a deep breath, "so powerful that in a few minutes
she made Buffy a god!"

She held the phone away from her green ear.

Holly said something, obviously obscene, in a language that Curupira's translations powers
could not handle. "Are you sure?" Holly said in a hushed voice Curupira had never heard.

"I touched her when she was doing it. She was made by Glory on the spot. Could you do that?"
Curupira really wanted to know. It was a bit like how Clare had attained neophyte godhood
in Roswell in the battle with Isabel.

Holly became businesslike.

"You know I don't intervene, except for the re-creation of the local universe thing and
getting others to volunteer to help me. Making immortals seems to be your own invention.
And Glorificus...and now the girl Clare and the baby inside her and Glory...Hall, as
I'm told by Lonnie..."

She stopped realizing she'd said too much to the clever Curupira.

If Lonnie was working for Holly, Curupira easily deduced that Holly was lying about
something. Maybe lots of somethings.

Holly recovered and steered the thought "...Making your own 'offspring', or so I'm
told by others. Other than Dawn."

"True," Curupira was guilty of wanting others to be like her and to like her.
"But you didn't answer the question."

"Little One...Curupira," Holly rarely used her real name. "I don't know if I could. I've never tried.
I even got you to do Glory Hall's Ben."

[Ed- This is in contradiction to what we have always thought and put in the bestowal table. Looks like we
forgot. The last time we read this manuscript was probably a year ago, August 2001. We'll revise the
table for this Ben to reflect this. ]

"Are you OK?", Curupira was beginning to really worry. Holly using her real name was not
a good sign. Too formal.

"You need to find out what happened specifically between Glory and Inanna. She will not
stand still for this. Glory must not interfere with Inanna or the Anunnaki hold on earth and
beyond. "

This was news to Curupira. "What will you do?"

"I'll be there, someway or the other, " she said surprisingly.

"you're intervening?" Curupira was stunned.

"Watching from inside, more like" Holly said rather mysteriously.
"Where's the robot?"

"The Bot, " she's a real organic supergirl girl now, Buffy-Anne. Though a bit under the weather now,"
Curupira glanced back into the kitchen area to verify this.

"No, the other one. Before the Buffy one,"  It was hearsay from somewhere. UNtil now Holly had
cared less. "Find it, bring it to me. Soon."

[Ed- This was the April-Bot, of course. Holly apparently bestowed on it like Tess did on the Buffy-
Bot, extracting the real girl inside and giving her control over a new organic supergirl body.
For a price. She apparently used the supergirl as an occasional vessel in which to place
her consciousness for spying within the Pantheon. What happened to April the supergirl is
apparently  part of the later work. "What We Are, What We Do".]

"Soon...OK," Curupira said quickly.

And she did.

Not understanding at the time here all this would lead.
...
Added 8/13/02 -This is actually from the early section of Part 1 of "Last Portal to Roswell"
manuscript, but we'd earlier stuck these events in the online synopsis for "Comprehension, Part 3".
It actually fits better and ends "Comprehension" well. Allows the next sequential work to start with
Clare already in the birth room.

At that moment the cell phone in her green costume, snuggled between her ample breasts
in its customary location, rang. It was Clare she knew. Whipping it out so fast she spilled
her left boob, the slightly larger one, out.

Unconcerned she answered. "Clare?"

Clare was fairly calm. "My water just broke. Help!"

"Seconds, Clare, seconds and we'll be there. Glory's here. Can you teleport?"
she asked.

"I'm too frazzled. It won't stop. I'm in the bathroom..." Clare was now a bit desperate,
maybe because she was alone.

Leaving the phone on, Curupira stuffed her boob back into the costume and
yelled at the slightly preoccupied girls, "Clare's starting labor! Glory I need
you to take us all there and then to Ben's Clinic. Now!."

Glory dropped her somewhat animated discussion with the terrified Lonnie and Ava.
"What about these two idiots?"

"Bring them along, " Curupira ordered. Glory didn't object and grabbed their hands.
"Make a circle," she said loudly...Now!" Everyone reached out for one another's
hands.

Perplexed, Ava and Lonnie found they were the links from Glory to the rest.

"We're on our way, "Curupira dropped the still open phone into her cleavage.
"Go, Glory, Go!" she took Dawn's hand.

Glory said something and they all vanished silently.

And appeared in the living room of the Glory Hall apartment. Curupira was up the
stairs so fast there was a slight sonic boom as she briefly broke the sound barrier.

Dawn and Glory followed, not anywhere as fast. They had no magic costume and could
lose all their clothes.

Buffy looked at the two Roswell girls. "Clare's having a god-baby. Wanna tag along?
Glory's not interested in you for now." Ava was wide-eyed at all that had happened in the
last half-hour.

Lonnie was recovered. She healed fast. Almost too fast, Buffy thought.
"I need to leave, but I'll get her to come to the ...where?" Lonnie asked.

Buffy gave her general directions. "And who is her?" she asked.

"You'll see. She's very interested and also probably now wants to meet you & Glory
face to face, I'm sure."  Lonnie had decided she was tired of being a punching bag
and was going to let Holly do her own investigating. Besides, now that Ava was here
and a supergirl too, that changed her priorities.

Buffy nodded. Ava looked at Lonnie, hugged her and then stepped back beside
Buffy. "I want to go with Buffy and see the god-baby this Clare is having. "

Lonnie didn't argue. "See you in a little while, honey. I love you," she added.
Ava made an air kiss to her big sister. "I know. I love you."

Glory stood at the top of the stairs as Lonnie left, ignoring her. "Up here," she ordered.
"We're going to the clinic. Curupira's called Ben. He was at the clinic. " They formed a
circle, with Ava between Glory and Buffy.

Joined now by a shortish, but hugely pregnant blonde that Ava had no trouble identifying
as Clare.

She had a towel tied between her legs and had pulled an enormous pair of plastic-looking
underpants over the towel. Her loose maternity dress was hanging out where it wasn't
caught by the underpants. Her face was pretty red. But otherwise she seemed in control
--- now that they were here.

"I'm ready - as you can see!" she quipped, taking Dawn and Curupira's hands to complete
the teleport circle. Glory spoke something and they disappeared soundlessly. She had
found Ben and a location the circle could land safely in the seconds before they left.

Easy for her now.

Ben was waiting in the clinic. "Dana's on her way," he said, sliding Clare into a
wheelchair. "I'll send a nurse out for you after I get her comfortable and examine her."
My waiting room is just the front lobby," he pointed left.

Reassured, they milled around until they found the little clinic's lobby and waiting room.
It was still daylight outside. Ava stuck to Buffy like glue. Carefully avoiding Buffy-Anne,
who was also carefully avoiding her and staying beside Glory.

She and Buffy listened to Glory talking to Dawn. "... I brought the starship to my world
with a portal using its capability and a lot of juice from me. I named it "Glory Triumphant" .
You  might find it interesting. Then I opened a portal into the apartments. That's how I got here.
Should've looked around and checked up on Clare."

Glory was feeling a bit guilty about that.

"Look," Ava pointed thru the front glass at Lonnie. She had a very tall aburn-haired woman
beside her. Even taller than Lonnie. Curupira blanched. "Holly," she said aloud.

Dawn glanced at Glory then Holly. "Trouble?" she said questioningly. "I think she's
the mystery god. The woman on the tower. "

Glory laughed confidently. "We'll see, won't we?"

As Holly entered behind Lonnie, the three gods, Buffy, Glory and Holly stared at
one another. The others stepped out of the way, Dawn pulling little Ava, who had
no idea what was going on.

Glory raised her hands to do something godly if she had to.

Holly smiled a beatifically cheerful smile. "How's the little mommy-to-be doing?"

Glory lowered her hands. "About to birth a god, like us," she responded, showing
her teeth in the famous smile all the Glory/Clare clones could do.

"Quite a feat," Holly declared. "Mind if I sit and wait with you?"
