She plays Claire, one of the 48 survivors of a plane crash on  an
isolated island. Per those who've seen it, she's pregnant and survives
the pilot. It's not clear if she has a permanent cast role, a recurring one 
or what. 

The pilot was shot and completed in Hawaii.
Whether there are any current shootings going on is not clear.

Certainly Emilie's long absence from the L.A. photo ops since she
left for Edmonton and "Santa's Slay" is explained by this series on 
the heels of that movie.

Hi! I've seen the pilot of "Lost" and can tell you that she survives it. 
Not sure how much more would be serious spoilers. But Emilie
does a wonderful job! I was so excited to see her in it, because I 
hadn't previously seen her name attached to it anywhere (it's not 
listed on IMDB under her credits), so it was a real surprise to see
her there!

The effects are done really well. I mean, you only *see* one of the 
strange creatures in the pilot, but the other one is *definitely* there. 
And you can tell by the nature of the attack that it's not the same 
thing as the creature that gets killed. So you get the feeling that a
lot of weird stuff is living on this island. Plus, they're not exactly 
sure where they *are* (you find out why in the pilot and, er, *from* 
the pilot of the plane). There's another really strange twist at the 
end that makes you realize this island that they've landed on is 
really ominous. 

It's just really well done, and in the pilot a lot of the suspense is 
drawn from what they *don't* tell you yet, as opposed to what 
they do tell you. And they have such tension in so many of the relationships, right off the bat. It's really one of the better pilots 
I've ever seen. Usually, you come away from a pilot knowing 
one or two characters' names. I came away from this one 
knowing five or six and really interested in a lot of interactions 
between people whose names I didn't catch. It's pretty cool 
the way that this massive disaster is going on all around them, 
but you also get drawn into their personal stories and are 
really interested in what's going on with them at the end of the
two hours.

Sorry it took a bit to get back to the boards! 

LilMouse, I got a copy of the pilot from a friend who works in the
industry. It's two hours long, of course, and some of the special 
effects (such as green screen stuff that they'll CGI in later) were 
missing, but it's fantastic. So much suspense even though I 
knew a lot of spoilers going into it! 

... I don't think her character's named in the pilot. That 
sounds weird, but a lot of the survivors aren't named in the pilot,
but still get a good bit of screentime. People are still in shock
and their interactions are kind of passing things where they're 
concentrating on eating and cleaning up the wreckage or 
wondering where the rescue parties are. 

She's very, very pregnant (8-9 months). The fate of her child is
left in question throughout most of the pilot. 

Also Emilie's listed as a guest star in the opening credits. Take
that as you will. Could mean her character may die at a later 
point giving birth to the baby, and the child then gets to be 
raised by this new 'society' of people. Btw, that's *not* a 
spoiler, that's pure speculation on my part! She definitely 
survives the pilot, though. And has interaction with several 
of the main stars on the show. 

It's also very cute to hear her speak with the Austrailian accent.

I can easily see her dramatically dying during child birth. It's pure 
spec but I dare say it's even most likely what they'll do. Baby 
still makes 48 survivors.

I still hope for recurring status, though. (Judging only by pictures, 
this show is seriously lacking in estrogen.) Lost is such a cool 
show for EdR to be on. Even sporadic appearances would please
me. lol

Well, the killing of Emilie's character is pure speculation on my 
part, there's no indication of it in the pilot at all. And they don't
say how old she's supposed to be, but she definitely looks to be early-to-mid-twenties, to me. She wears very modern, trendy 
maternity clothes. 

There are several scenes that she's in. One being her rescue 
scene, another being a scene where she's eating. Then there's 
one where she's talking to another female castaway and then 
there's a scene where she feels the baby move for the first time
since the accident. That's about the same kind of interaction 
all of the principles get in the pilot. 

It also leads me to believe that she'll probably survive for most
of the first 13 episodes that have been ordered. From the industry standpoint, I just think it would be a very cliffhangery kind of 
thing to end that 13th episode with her giving birth or having 
given birth an episode before and dying of complications 
afterwards. I know Mone mentioned that it sucks to kill off 
a female character in childbirth, especially in modern times 
like this, but they are in extreme circumstances, and you'll 
see in the pilot that most of their few medical supplies are 
used up in treating immediate injuries post-crash. So if she 
got an infection from a tear or bled to death, there's nothing
they could do to stop it. 

Plus? There's not really a single male character to leave the 
baby to care for. She doesn't have any relatives with her, so
it would be people who she only met once they were stranded 
that would be left to raise the child. Which really goes back
to Hillary's comment about it takes a village to raise a child. 
I mean, literally, it poses some interesting questions. Who 
*will* have the say so in what happens to the child? Who 
would be a primary caretaker? Who would be a surrogate 
mother? How would they *feed* a baby without breastmilk 
from the mom? Coconuts? I'm curious about things like 
that--there really are going to be actual societal issues
they have to deal with that are going to be of an entirely 
different level of interest than the strange things that go
boom and grrrr in the night. 

I think JJ's come up with an awesome idea here, and I'm 
interested to see if viewers embrace it.

Thanks so much for the Lost pilot info Roseyfan! 

I think they might keep "Claire" around because if the audiences
get closer to her character, they will feel more sympathetic for 
the baby once she dies. That is if she dies. And who knows, 
she might get close with one of the male characters (as a 
brother not so much a love interest) and leave it to him.

There's lots of possiblities and I'm sure JJ will come up with 
something good.

We never did find any pertinent news about Emilie.

We were searching to follow up a Hollywood Reporter print  blurb about NBC making a movie this summer in Vancouver about a smart young female seismologist warning about a series of earthquakes leading up to a 10.5 one.

Clue: a 10.5 earthquake is roughly the equivalent of  a small asteroid impact. 
Sort of "Bye-Bye west coast".

The movie title is "10.5".
Ever try searching with "10.5" as one of the targets?
Good luck.

Anyway the smart young female seismologist, Vancouver & NBC & this 
summer sounded a lot like 2002's "Carrie" profile. The female lead is unnamed in the print article.

So we thought "Emilie"...Maybe... But got no hits on the movie soon in production.

Anyone else??

We were talking the other day and got to wondering what breed of dog Emilie's little Bella was. Isn't 'Bella' Italian for 'beautiful' or 'beauty'?

She's been bringing it (her?) to a lot of her 2002 photo events. So we collected the ones we could find (all small) and examined them. We decided Bella was 
a toy poodle, mostly blackish.

Then we went back to the old 2001 interview where the, then unnamed 
Bella, first seemed to appear. Though obviously she must have had Bella much earlier in 2001.

We have multiple episodes on UltimateTV-70 hour digital  recording and have also made DVD copies to begin off-loading to make room for the 1/13/03 start of the Roswell reruns on SciFi.

This is complicated by multiple recordings of the 12 Clare Kramer "Buffy" Glory episodes and the current Season-7 episodes consuming so much hard drive space. 

The DVD+R copies are almost indistinguishable from the UltimateTV recordings on playback. Even though they are made through the VCR OUT cables.

These 2 hour SP DVD+R's play on any DVD player after finalizing. HQ recordings (1 hour) are not 100% compatible with some DVD players. We did the 3 hour "Carrie" as EP (3 hours) also. Still looks good on playback.

"Emilie de Ravin (Roswell)"  "[yes- spelled correctly for a change]
as "blonde and beautiful Chris Hargensen. The locker room scene 
was "heightened by taunts from a collection of co-eds from hell" 
[led by Chris].

"The remake does a better job than the original. Chris's boyfriend, Billy
Nolan, first played by Travolta, was a borderline cartoon character...
the new Billy is ... far  creepier, more believeably evil..." [ as noted in 
our earlier King novel review on Clare-Emilie-Michelle, Billy 
has several sex scenes with Chris where he beats her badly 
first].

"The films end quite differently...NBC seems to be harboring thoughts
of a sequel or even a weekly series." [in the novel Chris and Carrie both die].

Still another misspelling of de Ravin by those that don't  understand 
French-derived names.

It's also interesting to speculate on whether Emilie's family (and 
she,  turning 21 on 12/27/02) are wealthy or not. Some have noted
her incredible array of outfits and her  constant L.A. events with 
only 1 working guest role after Roswell Season-2, until 4AAAB. 
And "Carrie" next Monday, 11/4/02 on NBC.

Back when she was only Curupira and searches didn't come 
up with 1,000 pages of hits, we found that the extended 
de Ravin family (deRavin also) came to Australia  from the
French West Indies. 

They were and are still involved in mining, vineyards & wineries.

Emilie's birthplace, Mt. Eliza, Victoria, is a well-to-do suburb on the 
Mornington Pennisula south of Melbourne. As we recall from these 
early searches, it's also a university town.

The Mt. Eliza area is in the middle of Australian cool wine-country and 
the pennisula dotted with 44  vineyards and wine estates.

Emilie's 1999-2000 "Beastmaster" reruns start 
Sat 10/5/02 on WB & WGN at normal "Beastmaster" 
times.

Emilie first appears as the demon Curupira in 
Episode 6. This probably will air 9 & 10 Nov, 
the same week as Emilie's "Carrie" Miniseries, 
tentatively planned for 4 Nov 2002 on NBC.

Both appear to be running them in the same time slots 
as the last 2002 episodes. In our case WGN (DirectTV 307)
at 11:00 AM, and WB (DirecTV 33) at 2:00 PM.

Emilie as "The Demon Curupira" appeared in 8 (?) 
episodes of the 66. All in 1999-2000. She made 
the last 3(?) episodes in the summer of 2000, 
after her 6 episode guest appearances as Tess 
on Roswell. These episodes were broadcast while she
was a regular cast member on Roswell in the fall 
of 2000.

Curupira first appears in the episode about the boar
hunters,  Episode 1-6.  (Her last 'technical' appearance 
is in Season 1 & 2 flashbacks in Season 3's "The Trial".)

She uses her Kiss of Death in her first episode. 

Many of the other powers Curupira has were simply 
transferred to Tess. Mindwarp being a major one.

Tess showed superspeed like Curupira in killing 
the hangar people in "Four Aliens and a Baby", 
her last appearance on Roswell in May 2002.

It;s been almost 4 months since Emilie was in
public photos. She completed her "Carrie" 
miniseries filming in Vancouvver early in August.

She's reappeared with a vengeance.

-You misread the obvious. 

Just because Tess is a part of a greater destiny 
does not mean that her apparent rival in the
scripted Roswell episodes has to be demonized.

Think about it.

All Liz wants is Max. 
Tess wants lots more.
Max is a means to an end for Tess.

Tess changes history. Liz is just a part of that history.
When Liz had a chance to alter history with Future Max
she enlisted Tess. 

In the end, Liz lost out on her wedding and Tess won,
sort of.

It's, then, no surprise that DTLS' Works highlight Tess
(and Curupira, the actual proto-Tess)in the real dimension
as agents of change. By their personal decisions, some 
seemingly small, they change history for all time for those
that simply have to live in that changed history. 

People like Liz.

Though written from DTLS own observations, experiences and 
the material she collects, the Works make a specific point of
showing the incredible importance of Tess (& Isabel)in taking
the scope of all their destinies from small towns like Sunnydale
and Roswell to L.A. and then beyond. 

The other dimensional Tess/Curupira gets Dawn & the pregnant other
Glory/Clare to take the fateful road trip to Roswell.

There the bestowals start.

Out of that come the two other wild cards of history. 
The supergirls Tess & Isabel, driving to Sunnydale.

They rip through Sunnydale like the winds of change. Tess 
frees the girl trapped in the Bot. She names her Buffy-Anne.

Then Tess, the Warrior & the Princess, agrees to a grudge match
with Buffy. She essentially kills Buffy, then resurrects her at
the demand of her Queen, Isabel. In the process both Buffy & Tess 
detect profound destinies in one another.

In L.A., they encounter the other deadly pair of sisters, the 
Sukkhal Twins. The 4 eventually hook up with Angel, Glory &
Buffy, following their arrival. 

Great battles ensue with the high-tech magic forces of Inanna. 

The supergirls help Glory storm a starship amid great
slaughter. Glory is set on her own destiny, courtesy of the 
"Two Roses" from Roswell.

It just goes on and on. 
All the way to Glory's palace in 2010 A.D.

When Tess is there she's treated as a Princess & a Warrior.
It may not be the royalty she thought she'd have, but it's
so much more. 

What's Liz doing all this time?

Though immortal since the bestowal in Roswell, she has no 
superpowers. She lives quietly with Max in Holly's Sunnydale
villa. One of the retinue that has collected around this
eons-old re-creatrix god. 

That's Liz' destiny. 
To simply live in the world.

Tess (and Curupira), on the other hand, have remade the very
world and other worlds and dimensions by their actions. 

In the end, as we see Tess on Roswell for the last times, 
we should ask ourselves these questions:

Are our lives enriched because of Emilie de Ravin as Curupira?
Are our lives enriched because of Emilie de Ravin as Tess?
Are our lives enriched because of Emilie de Ravin as Ava?
Are our lives enriched because of Emilie de Ravin?

Of course. Four YES answers.

'Roswell'-'Enterprise' Crossover:
Strange but True.

They share a studio lot, a network and a genre, but after an upcoming episode,  they'll share a lot more. "Secrets and Lies," the fourth episode of this season  on "Roswell" -- its first on UPN, after moving over from The WB -- boldly goes  into the "Star Trek" universe with a crossover episode that links it with the  UPN freshman series "Enterprise," the newest "Trek" pin-off."
